A truly beautiful 1871 german dress sword bayonet, i thing the design is taken from the 1871 pattern seitengewehr bayonet, but this one would be for dress occasions, called a walking out bayonet. It is beautifully made and unlike many of this type it is made to fit a rifle, ti has a brass hilt with solid grips, the blade has been beautifully etched with cannon, drums, pikes, flags and swords. The scabbard is made of leather with a brass throat adn tip. The condition of this sword in my opinion is just superb, the blade does have a few dark spots here and there but on the whole it is one of the best i have ever seen, the blade is marked with w. K&c. Which i think is for weyersburg, kirschbaum & co, a specialist sword and bayonet maker from solingen and are known to ahve produced some very fine pieces. The length of the blade is 20.5 inches the sword in the scabbard is 26.5 inches. These quite scarce german side arms are becoming very hard to find now, a blade of this quality holds excellent investment potential.
