Auctionimage boredr 2px solid #ffffff. A superb example of the much sort european infantry hanger, dating from the first quarter of the 19th century, based on napoleonic design it has a 23 inch blade and a brass hilt with this unusual acorn type end to the quillon, it is marked in various places and dated 1822 on the cross guard, with a little research it should be able to trace the manufacture, i have a feeling this one may be german, please see the pictures of the marks. The condition is really quite good considering its age, if you fancy doing a little restoration, but not to much, then this is the perfect piece for you, the hilt, grips cross guard etc is in excellent condition, although it is made of solid brass, it looks as if it has not been cleaned for many years and would come up a treat, the sabre type blade is quite good, it has some pitting towards the hilt but the bottom half is better, there are a few nicks to the blade edge, but all of these minor faults could be sorted with a few hours elbow grease if required, there is no rust which is a real bonus, it is a beautifully balanced side arm that is well worth some attention. Please see pictures and judge for yourself the condition, as it seems what is good condition to one, is poor condition to another.
