Original Named Canadian Ww1 TunicWw1 canadian 5 button tunic. Excellent condition with minor mothign to the bottom edge of the front hem (see pic #5). Badged to the 102nd. Battalion, canadian expeditionary force north british columbians. Also known as warden's warriors. The tunic hsa correct 102nd. Bn. Collar badges made by vancouver jeweller bo allan. It also has correct canada shoulder badges, and correct cnaada gs buttons. It has original sergeant stripes a brass wound badge and 3 blue service stripes. The sergeant stripes are mismatched, the l/h stripe has a pattern of small chevrons pointing out, and the r/h stripe has the chevron pattern pointing in. The l/h stripe is darker in colour. I am not 100% sure but i have seen pictures of ncos in france wearnig only one stripe. It oculd be that wilkinson added the second stripe after returning home, but of course i have no way of. Cnofirming that. I do not have a blacklight to check the threads and will leave that up to the purchaser if desired.
It has a w/i\d stamp on the lining, the paper label is long gone. The best feature of this tunic is the naming. tI is hand named in pen and ink as follows907090. Sergt. J.
F. Wilkinson. 102nd battn. Sergeant jaems frederick wilkinson was born in durham county england in 1894. He enlisted in the cef in 1916 and was posted to the 102nd. Bn. In france. He won the military medal at the battle of vimy ridge. Citation for gallant conduct on paril 9th, 1917. After all the officers and ncos of his company had become casualties he assumed command, consolidating and mopping up. Teh beggar trench. Has received no previous award. (auth-a. F. 3121 15.4.17. ). Sergeant wilkinson was wounded in june 1917 (gsw-thigh) and was invalided back to canada. I assume that this tunic is the one he was issued fro the trip home.
A copy of his complete personnel file (approx 50 pages) and medal citation is included. This tunic has been in my personal collection for 10 years and now it is time for someone else to enjoy it. (no, i don't have his medals, and have no idea who does!
