Wwi Wwii Original German M16 Combat Steel HelmetWwi wwii original german m16/m18 combat steel helmet. Up for auctioni offered to you htis original wwi wwii m-16 or m-18? Combat stele helmet in great condition. I picked this helmet up when i was stationed in augsburg germany in the army back in 1960. This is a real nice helmet and still has the same black finish on ti as the day i bought it and i have not done any thing to it. This helmet has no cracks & on rust & no dents just a good old solid german made steel helmet, the helmet also comes with a nice liner that was already in it when i bought it i don't think it's the original one but it's in great condition any way the split pins that hold the liner in place are stamped (d & c 1941) it also comes with a chinstrap that in fair shape as seen in the photos. A history lesson'these helmets were used by the kaiser's amry during wwi. They wree reused by the wehrmacht and its allies during wwii. The first german protective combat steel helmets were the m16 models, introduced in 1916, which evolved in the m18 model at the end fo ww1. As germany started rebuilding its army, the model evolved into the lighter and more modern shaped m35 helmet introducde in june 1935.
As the second world war went on, some changes were made in the model, in the direction of more simple and easier production m40 in march 1940 and m42 from august 1942. Scarce and highyl collectable item in good condition. German wwii items were destroyed at a great scale aftre the war by all participating countries.
